The CME was presented by Dr. Han Yung Wen, a Family Medicine Specialist and Founder of Ecosoul Clinic, Setia Alam and participated by family physicians from the private practices.
In the CME, Dr. Han presented the significance of skin sensitivity and eczema conditions. The conditions become prominent and received a lot of attention in the recent years due to the rise of the numbers affecting all ages without the exact known cause. Unlike psoriasis, skin sensitivity and eczema are not measurable with any medical tool or grade. In the presentation, Dr. Han had also shared the management with fellow family physicians to alleviate immediate symptoms during consultation/visitation and long-term approach to minimise the occurrence potential or lengthen the post flare-up condition before relapsed. Most of the recommended long-term approaches are lifestyle modification including avoiding hot shower and application of body lotion to retain skin moisture.
In addition, Dr. Han also presented that some natural ingredients have been shown its potency in handling the conditions. Most of the natural ingredients are present in the cosmeceutical products, whereby the ingredients have validated for their physiochemical properties, in vitro and in vivo testing and lastly proven in the clinical studies. These ingredients contain standardized compounds that successfully blocked the pathway that lead to skin sensitivity and eczema, and promote building of healthier skin barrier. Among the ingredients presented included Hydroxybenzoic Acid from Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract, -Bisabolol from Chamomile Extract, Boswellic acid from Boswellia Serrata Gum Extract, Saccharide Isomerate and Ceramides.
